Default 97 850 Wagon N/a Parting out

Parting out a 97 wagon. 300k miles bought for $350

Any specific parts I should pull from the car? Ive already pulled a good deal out. lights seats. Haven't pulled the transmission out but I am going too.

Engine is fine dealership just said needs pretty much all new gaskets and seals. So I will probably be kicking that to the curb.

Most of interior is already been gutted.

Might want to hang on to those NA cams from the engine. Guys like to put them into their turbo engines for a performance boost.

Some parts have dates on them, the heater core may. So, you can pull stuff and look for dates and parts that are OEM.

What color is it and why is it being parted out?

Thanks man. I appreciate you moving my post to the classifieds.

You think I have no idea what I am doing I assume, or that I am trying to sell stuff on your forum? Obviously because you moved my posting into the classifieds.

Where did I say about selling anything in my posting?

Now because another member asked about an item, and I guess would be interested in buying it you move my post.

I never said anything about selling.

I bought this car as a parts car for myself, hence the reason its being torn up. I have two other 850's the I am going to use the parts for.

My first time gutting a car, so I posted to get people's advice who have maybe done this before. Which I thought this forum was for?

Now, Instead people are going to be posting asking if I have certain parts for sale.

I have viewed this forum for the past 6 years as a guest and know the rules, I joined because I got tired of not being able to see peoples pictures.

Again much thanks

The Classifieds is where you're going to find people who can tell you what they are looking for from you car no matter if you're giving it away or selling it.

You thread was moved to where it belongs and anyone who had replied to it is still linked to it so you didn't lose an opportunity to get told what to save by that person.

First of all Happy New Year to ALL

Second: I didnt think I'd start something by asking a simple question.

For the record: I never said that I was interested in buying anything, I was curious as to the condition of a part that is notorious for cracking warping and so on.

It was an honest question which I now regret asking.

@ Kissafrog:

I am sincerely sorry for having asked Mr. Brian about a part, I did not know that was not kosher unless it is posted in the classifieds therefore got him into trouble.

However, I have to agree with the OP (Brian) who never states anywhere that he is intersted in selling anything and contectually he is asking advice from other members. Perhaps his topic could be moved back to its original place with a different title as a compromise? I think it is interesting information for other folks that may be considering purchasing a used car for parts: what to look for, what a good price is etc?

Sorry for the inconvenience, Brian40kk and Kissafrog

I'm confused - you buy a parts car but then need to ask what to pull from it? Dude, you buy a parts car for the parts that you need. Since you have two other cars, I'd compare the parts from the three of them and keep the best one.

I just bought a parts car for the hood, the fender and parts from the front of the car. As it turns out, there are a few other interior bits that are in better shaps so I'm pulling them. Anything left over will be posted here. I don't need to ask anyone what to pull for my own project. Hopefully you understand why your post seemed like you were selling parts and just start removing everything from all the cars and have some fun.

So this reply is to clarify the issues here.

Car has over 300k on it and very beat up and abused. Yes, these cars can go forever but if not taken care of they end up trash. Previous owner had to have hit a curb because front passenger side sway bar end link bent in half and disconnected, and strut completely broken. Tailgate has a 8 inch dent in it and front bumper is very dented and scratched up. I will be posting pics soon to clarify the condition of the car. Also will be contacting the dealership and see if they still have the report on the overall condition of the car.

I didn't post in the classifieds because at this moment in time I am not selling anything. As I said in previous posts.

Like I commented to the mod, I posted to know what parts to pull from the car. Aside from the interior which I stated was gutted and the manual transmission for myself. I didn't want to be getting pm's about buying parts or having the posting filled up with people trying to buy parts.

Again why I told the mod why I did not originally post in the classifieds.

My two other 850's are a 94 n/a auto wagon and a 95 yellow.

So I am not about to just start ripping apart my yellow, or my 94 wagon that is in much better condition then the 97 wagon.

I would not have known to pull the cams from the car or check heater core and other items that have been replaced.

Obviously I am keeping the cams for my yellow, and the manual for either of my two 850s.

What I have kept so far, all lights, seats(cant remove the back rests of back seats) valve cover, throttle body, idle air valve, roof rack, calipers, rims & tires, all doors, windows, hood, rear bumper, radiator, and ecu.

Again remember the car is over 300k so it is very dirty, beat up, and in overall bad condition. Again only purchased for only $300 originally for the manual transmission which had been rebuilt 50k ago.

I hope I haven't offended anyone.

Pictures soon to show condition of car.

This is a lot of something about nothing ,,, and I'm adding to it.

If Brian has a car and he wants to know what to save, IMHO he should look through the classifieds at what people are selling and what people are asking about. If it's related to parting out a car the logical place is to put it in the classifieds.

As for you asking about a part, that's the reason I "suggested" the thread be moved. I didn't move it, I don't have that power and I didn't complain to anyone about it. I was actually thinking I was making a positive suggestion to give Brian some help in parting out the vehicle for himself or for others.

NO ONE, at any time was in trouble over any of the posts in this thread and if I had known the thin skin involved I wouldn't have recommended the move. I thought it would give the original poster a better avenue to find out what to pull and yes, what stuff to pull for SALE.

Like one of the recent posts I guess I'm in agreement, why buy a parts car for yourself and not know what to pull ?? Pull everything you can that you have room to store for yourself or if it collects too much dust, list it!!

The nice thing about it ending up here is Brian might make some money on parts he doesn't want but other people are looking for and due to Brian maybe we can save a Volvo or two.

It's a win, win ... let it go.

But I'm not selling anything... I think that's my third time saying that now, nor am I giving anything away, implied in a previous post by someone.

Of course I know what parts I want for myself, just wanted to get an idea from people what is worth taking from the car and not.

Again like I said in an early post, reason I didn't post in the classifieds is because I don't need people messaging me and posting about items for sale, when again nothing is for sale.

Because the mod suggested my posting be put in the classifieds and now is, doesn't mean anything is for sale. This posting is turning into exactly the opposite of what I wanted, which I warned the mod about. But obviously the mod thinks he knows what I want and keeps insisting I am selling parts, or going to sell parts in the future.

Like I said before NOTHING is for sale, and I am sure not giving anything away for free.

I could careless about this post now seeing it is serving no purpose for me.

So please don't message me about items for sale.
