I teach Electronics @ Lone Star College, and I have had my Radio License(W5GVH) since 1954.
I got an Old 1993/4 Saturn with the Odometer out.
I got an Instrument Panel from the "Junk Yard" & it had the same problem.
In my searches I also see where BMW ,& Now Volvo, is experencing the same trouble.
I believe the Stepping Motor Drivers can't handle the Stepping Motor Inductive Load, andafter a few years get punched through.

I Would likeone of the chips for experimenting with Opto Couplers/Better Drivers & the other one to get my Son's Saturn going.

This would also be good Lab experiment for our Automotive Electronics Class.

Have you, or any of your associates, chased the problem??

Ce serait également une bonne expérience de laboratoire pour notre classe d’électronique automobile.
