Default CAR VS. DEER ROUND 1

first off... pardon the low quality camera-phone pics.

Wrecked my '02 S60 2.4T AWD last week w/ about 70k miles on it.

I guess I was in the neighborhood of 60 MPH when I hit the deer. It was dark out, and after the headlights were both knocked out, and the hood was obstructing any vision I may have otherwise had, I managed to avoid the oncoming traffic and the guardrail (not shown, but just in front of the car). I'm glad the airbags were intelligent enough to not go off otherwise I probably would have ended up head on with another vehicle.

The tally thus far is $7800 in damage (it was a big deer). That was before I told the body shop that power was not being transferred to the wheels when I tried to drive it onto the flat bed. I'm not sure if this is a result of engine / transmission damage, or the cars computer cutting spark due to abnormal conditions (ie. low coolant, broken air box etc.0

Just wanted to share some pics of a Volvo having done it's job.

This is interesting someone else on another Volvo forum had an incident with a deer. Much less damage though.

uh...no. The deer came to rest after sliding down the road about 300 ft. It was most definately not alive.

Well... the final estimate came back at $11,268.99 in damages. I'm waiting to find out if the car is going to be considered a total loss or not. That's one expensive deer.

Wife's a claims adjuster. She hates when the rut is on. Nothing like a horny deer to disregard traffic control devices. Of course if I were a buck and was about to get me some deer tail I'd probably disregard them myself.[8D][sm=bounceybounce.gif]

We have a lot of deer vs car accidents around here, too. I've only hit one deer, and that was while I was still living in AZ. Only broke a turn signal lense. Has any one out there considered using the "deer alert" devices? They work, and aren't all that costly. Available most Wal-Marts, Auto Zone, etc.

Gross??? They are very fortunate the deer was dead by the time it's head was laying in their lap. They can get into the car, Volvo or not, and kick you to death. Yes.... it has happened.

Well that's a bummer glad to see you came out okay and I'm pretty sure they're going to consider it totaled at 11k worth of damages. :X
