Default High idle in park…loud engine whining sound

I have a 2016 Volvo XC60 turbo with only 75k miles. On the highway the other day it began to make a loud whining sound. Once I stopped the car and put it in park, the sound accelerated no matter what gear it was in. It was idling high with no foot on accelerator.
Is this something anyone has experience with? I have read a couple other posts.Maybe a oil trap issue? Or could the timing belt be causing this? There isn’t any apparent intake issues upon just looking at engine.

Hello - i have the same vehicle and it seems like a similar issue. When accelerating, I don't hear the whining. It is loud when idling, coasting or parked. Did you find a resolution?

I had this same issue and it was from a tear in my PCV diaphragm. An easy way to test this is to unscrew your oil cap with the car running, it will have suction and rev the engine
