Is the problem that it consistently does not come on, or does the puddle light work on and off? Have you tried a new bulb? The owners manual has instructions on how to change the bulb, If you don't have the owners manual, I can find the directions on line for you. Shoot me a PM in you need the info.
Oh, and just to keep things straight, Your car is a '04.5 S40 T5. It's a Second Gen S40.
The 2004 S40's were the older body style and only came with a 1.9T.
