Default Grinding noise when coming to stop

I have replaced my brake pads, rotors, etc, and I still have grinding sound when I come to a stop. I sounds like the brakes, but clearly it is something different. I was told it may be the struts. Is this possible?

The vehicle is 98 S70GLT. I cannot figure out what is causing the grinding noise. Last night, while parked on a slight incline, I put the brake on while I was starting the car. The noise was there and I was already stopped. It has to be something other than brakes, bearings, etc.

Did they inspect the e-brake shoes?
Did you have all 4 rotors replaced?

I had all 4 rotors replaced earlier in the summer? What are ebrakes? I just replace the pads, even thought the others did not look bad. I hear the noise slightly when I come around sharp turn. I really think the brakes are ok.

The rear rotors on the inside of the rotor is a drum setup for the e-brake. There is brake shoes under the rear rotor. You would have to remove the rear rotor to see them.

Is it more of a rumbling noise?

I only notice it when I brake hard, or as if I brake normally, it sounds like it's grabbing at the very end of the stop. The mechanic told me he thought it might be my struts, but then why would I be getting feedback in the brake pedal? I've looked at the rotors are they are fine and the pads are all new. I'm dumbfounded. Rumbling would be one way I describe it.

I am wondering it maybe you would need the Half shims in the rear.
Does it get worse the hotter the brakes get?
Does it ever get to where is sounds like a loud bass drum in the trunk and kind of rumble the entire car?

The sound comes more from the front than the rear.

Pads were bought from a Volvo dealership so one has to assume that they are the correct pads. The fact that I hear the grinding even while not applying the brakes in a turn gives me reason to think it isn't brake related, but the brakes do give feedback/vibration when I stop.

I wonder if the ABS module is bad and causing the ABS pump to activate.

well, I replaced that about 18 months ago so I hope that's not it. It sounds more like a suspension issue. But I can't tell at this point.

New or rebuilt?
You might want to try to have the codes pulled to make sure.

I'll try, but the mechanic has run every electronic check that he can run apparently and their is nothing wrong that the sensors are picking up. It is riding rougher than normal. He recommended replacing the struts. Does this sound logical?
