Default Strut Life

I have a 2004 S80 with 115,000 miles and, other than scheduled maintenance, no work has been done on the car. Everything is just as it was delivered to us at the dealership 6 1/2 years ago. This is our first Volvo and my question is how long the struts/shocks (assuming shocks are on the rear) last? My wife drives the car 80% of the time but when I drive it, the wheels seem to hit bumps harder now. Last Fall we asked an independent Volvo shop about checking the struts/shocks but he said they should be fine given the mileage at that time. We are planning 2 vacation trips this Summer so I'm wondering if the struts/shocks should be replaced. Any advice? Thanks in advance.
