Water got in my engine and I really need some advice. Okay, here's what happened.

Was in the process of replacing valve cover gasket and had to leave for a minute. I'm working outside in Ohio. Didn't close the hood b/c engine hoist was holding engine. Anyways, it poured down rain while I was out. Spark plugs were already taken out. Came back and very small amounts of water could be seen on top where the valve cover belongs.

Dried off the water with small towel, but to my dismay, I loosened the oil plug from the pan, and about 20 ounces of water poured out.

What do I do? Does this mean my engine is ruined? Should I remove the oil pan and get all the water out? Please help guys.

 

No big deal...but if you want to be really **** you can do an engine flush. But to be perfectly honest you could just fill it up with fresh oil, let it run and then drain it all out. Repeat until you see no traces of "milkshake" on the dipstick or under your oil filler cap. A bit of water in the motor is not the end of the world, stay calm, no need to panic. So as long as no water is getting into the oil via a blown head gasket, you should be good to go. Good luck and next time cover your engine with a clean towel or something

 

Run engine till it's up to temperature and look at the colour of the oil through the oil filler hole. If it's milky, change the oil. If not milky, ignore.
