yesterday, my 1988 240DL started making a noise like a popcorn popper like right in the middle of the front seat under the car. its only when the car is moving, not only when i am pressing the acelerator.

does anyone know what it might be? also, i am wondering how long i should keep fixing stuff that goes wrong with this car...everyone tells me to get a new one, but this volvo only has 175,000 miles on it and i love it.

Is it from UNDER THE CAR or UNDER THE SEAT? Is it mechanical or electric? I'd assume it's from under the car.
I'd say it might be u-joint/driveshaft/central support bearing related... Not expensive but have someone look at it... soon.
As far as your second question, the answer is: forever! As with any car, once it is at a certain age, things will go bad and have to be attended to. But even with new cars, it's the same thing, actually worse! That's why we like Volvos...

no one in my family owns a volvo, so they just assume that it's like any car, but it's been so reliable for like 5 years so i want to fix it. it's rusty and old but i <3 it.
