Default 1988 "760" (740 Turbo) R134 AC Not Working

A few years ago my wife purchased a 1988 "760" which we are now putting on the road. The Air Conditioning system was previously converted to R134 but was not working when she bought the car. We have an 85 740 turbo parts car which had not been converted. If the compressor in R134 car is not working, what is involved in swapping over the compressor from the ex R12 system from the parts car?

Is there any trouble shooting we can do before we take the car into a shop?

same compressor just different gas...just take the r134 fitting off the low pressure side of the compressor if one is there and screw it on the low pressure side of the parts car compressor...fill with R134(with leak fix) and R134 oil
