Default 1990 740 gl wagon a/c expansion valve location

I’m trying to decide whether or not to repair the air conditioning on this 740 wagon. Does anyone know the location of the expansion valve for the a/c on this car?

if it’s buried under the dashboard I’m hesitant to mess with it.

thank you in advance.

That car has an accumulator and a orifice tube. The tube is located where the high side pipe screws onto the evaporator under the hood (inside the evaporator). R 12 tube is a 1324829, r 134 tube is a 3545086. Just saw that someone makes a variable tube - that might help. Some cars have a two piece high side pipe (as shown in the picture, If so the tube is in that junction (circled). Has the car been converted to r134? If it's still r12, there are several things you will need to change, including the oil in the compressor. Your biggest problem will be getting things apart - those aluminum pipes tend to seize together after a while. So I would not order any parts until you are sure A - things come apart, and B you can get a r 134 accumulator.
