Default 1991 volvo 940 se turbo

Hello,
I have a chance to buy an 1991 VOLVO 940 SE TURBO.
I was told the head gasket was week and would have to be replaced.
There are aftermarket turbo boost gages that are not showing any bost and the Dash boost gage is not moving when I rev up the engine. I am not sure they are even connected .
The car has all of its service records and the turbo had been serviced at the dealer with the last year.
Any input on this car or problems with this model would be very helpful.
Thanks....Tom

Me and my dad replaced a BHG on my 91 745T. All in All when spent ~$800, but it was well worth it. Check out IPD for parts and stuff.

It sounds like they aren't hooked up, but it is easy to hook thoes up. Does the stock gauge move into the white (vacuum) section, or are both gauges just not moving?

They are awsome cars, and I like the SE bodykit. Nice find. But HOW much is the seller asking?

Hi,
Neither of the gauges move at all.
The asking price is $1375 and then the cost of the head gasket replacement.

Gauges hook up to the intake manifold, and under the drive side dash.
How many miles? That can help with the price.
See what the compression is on the motor. As long as it has descent compression and it didn't blow...I'd say try and get it for ~$1000 and then do the head gasket.

The SE is a great car, it was the Volvo flagship of 1991 and hugely expensive. It had features unavailable on any other 940 such as the IRS in the rear and tilt steering. It is a 960 with the more reliable 230FT motor. For some reason these cars, probably since they were so costly and thus got better care, seem to last better and longer: at least the 3-4 examples I' ve come across-not scientific sample by any means. On the negative side, parts are hard to source and takes some creativity. The drivetrain is 740/940 turbo, but the rest is 760 here, 960 there, unique in some areas, and it's only 1991... The Indep. Rear Suspension (IRS), is a challenge since everything back there is different including brakes, shocks, springs, bushings, etc. Subtle body moulding differences give it an elegant look but replacements there are also difficult to find...
What does "turbo serviced" mean?
Also, I'd suspect aftermarket turbo "gauges" since it indicates work by people who obviously didn't know what they were doing. Who knows what else they tried to "improve"...
