My (daughter's) 92 940 Volvo automatice transmission refuses to shift into 4th gear now. The lockup or 4th gear disengage light now stays illuminated now regardless of the button position. I checked the fluid level and it is normal. In some other posts someone referred to a relay of some sort - could this be the culprit and it is user fixable by a non-mechanic? The car has 192K miles on it, and I would like to keep it alive for my daughter to contineu to drive... thanks!

 

i used to own a 94/ 940/auto andone day it just refused to change up to into fourth.it turned out that i neededto buya newswitch of some sort that was fitted at a volvo dealership. it cost me around 45 pounds, i guess thats about 30 US dollars. sorry i cant be more specific but it was a cheap fix in any case. good luck with yours.
