1992 VOLVO DL-240 Horn Contacts -----Where to Buy????
Hello Volvo Gurus:
iI have a horn problem. The original 30-year single horn (low frequency and terrible tone) finally gave out. I obtained on Ebay a 2-horn BOSCH hi and low tone horn assembly. After wiring horns and adapting to existing POWER and GND cable harness I find it "sometimes" works. With more troubleshooting the following is known:
(a) disconnected battery + and - and used T-20 TORX to remove SRS pad on steering wheel as contacts are below this pad
(b) horn contacts are very small in height and appear worn (not high)
(c) contacts have continuity to BLK gnd wire at harness connector, this is good, no broken wires in harness
(d) It looks like the horn contacts are worn such that the swivel bar for the horn assy can cause a ground ckt for the horn. If I directly press down and straight on the contact, I have a gnd connection to the horn connector in the horn harness. Yea...but it is not consistent...dah!!!!!!
Where do I buy horn contacts? On Ebay they are advertised from DORMAN and p/n 87874MW. Is this what I should buy? I will replace all (4) horn contacts since the big GOLD T-30 bolts will allow removal of the swivel bar holding the contacts.
A giant PIA but I think i solved my problem. The springs look good, all wires intact and not broken. I did not disconnect the cable to the SRS as I think an SRS error will occur and light the dash SRS light. Don't need this problem.
Thx...long live the Volvo DL-240 sedan. Appreciate all comments and recommendations.

Are you talking about the horn contacts inside the steering wheel? I did this repair on my 850 and it was easy to see which plastic tabs were broken. I think I actually bought the repair kit from FCP Euro You should be able to find a replacement horn contact ring on any Volvo friendly site as well (FCP, IPD or a dealer store like Tasca Parts) but a dorman part from ebay should do fine provided it fits. As you noted, make sure to disconnect the battery and test discharge any capacitance since you will need to disconnect the air bag. I'd be there's a how to on Youtube as well.

Hi and hello:
Thx for responding to my question.
It appears everyone is talking about a horn ring that is used as a ground in some way. I do not have a horn ring, or I am not digging deeper into my problem. My circuitry involves swivel bars and a stationary metal bar below the swivel, The bars contain the horn contacts that are badly worn and I need to replace. Each contact is a " snap in with a wire clip used for installation and removal.
The swivel bar contains the springs that are insulated from the contact horn bar. It's an elaborate design but thats the VOLVO way. I am searching for a local salvage yard to see if a 1992 VOLVO DL-240 is still around. Next, I will a VOLVO dealer to obtain a more precise definition for the horn circuitry.
Thx for responding again.
