1993 940 inner tie rods
1 Attachment(s)
Hi everybody,
I tried to remove the inner tie rods on my wife's 1993 940, but called it a day after I did not find any flat space on the rack shaft where I could get a grip on with a wrench or vise grip. See attached photo. Other threads said there is supposed to be a flat space. Oh, yeah, this is a Koyo steering rack. There are two notches to the inside of the flange. You can see one of them in the photo. Any ideas? Thanks. |
no need to hold the rack
straighten the lock tab out and just get a wrench or on some models a pipe wrench on the ball of the inner tie-rod and loosen you will not need to hold the rack portion.

+1 the pipe wrench works wonders.

Thanks, guys!

Finally got around to the inner tie rod job. I've heard on some posts that it is a good idea to put Loc-Tite on the threads of the inner tie rod going into the rack. Is this a good idea? Also, on one of my replacements, the inner tie rod did not come with a locking washer tab, so I had to hammer down the original washer (which was pried open for removal of inner tie rod) and re-use it. This washer is pretty critical, right?

The washer helps hold it locked.
