240 fan pulley clearance

Hello fellow Volvo enthusiasts!

1987 Volvo 245 base model here. I recently replaced the alternator, water pump, and alternator bushings. I'm now running in to an issue where the adjustment arm for the alternator hits the bottom of the fan pulley.

The adjustment arm doesn't move front to back, only up and down, which would lead me to believe the fan pulley is for some reason too far back (too close to the engine). I'm not sure how this is possible. The new water pump is a GMB purchased from IPD guaranteed to fit an '87 240.

What am I missing? Is there supposed to be a spacer between the water pump and pulley that I lost in the process of replacing? I've scoured the internet and haven't had any luck.

The adjuster arm should have 1) a bolt that comes from the backside thru the arm.2)there is a bolt that goes thru the arm and threads into a block that bolt #1 goes thru. Turning bolt #2 adjust the belt tension. Did you replace the belts? Too short belts will cause this also.

When you compare the new parts with the old parts you should see what the problem is.

What is the difference? I too am having the same problem. And already discarded the old pump. Generic fan pulley shims are available at auto stores.

I've seen that before; I did like KRH did; put a washer on each of the studs before putting on the pulley- works great.
