Default 240 Hesitating and bogging down

Just over the past two days my 93 240 has started bogging down while driving at any speed. At first I thought it was the transmission because it would do that between shifting gears, but the more it happens the engine just sounds like its suffocating, wanting to stall but not quite stalling. It did it this morning coming off a red light and did it lots more on the highway going 70. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey buzzbomb, I've been having a very similiar problem with my 1984 240. The problem got progressively worse over time, and I'm still trying to figure it out, but these forums have given me a bunch of advice that have helped a bit. It sounds like a fuel pressure/pump/injection issue, so here are some things you might want to check:

-Fuel filter and main fuel pump
-Prepump and intank filter
-Air mass meter
-Fuel pressure regulator
-Fuel injectors
-and many more...

Let me know if this helps at all, I'm not sure how experienced you are with auto repair (I myself am obviously inexperienced, because I'm still trying to get my car going and have only learned this stuff while trying to fix it recently). But I can give you some tips for checking some of these thingsif you need any. Hopefully some of the other volvo experts of these forums will give you a hand, too. :-) Also...let me know if you figure it out, I could be having the same problem....

Check your normal tune-up items -- plug wires, disty cap & rotor, air & fuel filters.

Post back.

some may think I am retarded because I say this all the time. I have had 6 240's wagons and sedans including now 1990 240 dl wagon w/ 195000 miles. Change the fuel pressure regulator. several of the ones that I have had have done the same thing and everyime I replaced the regulator it fixed it. $45 from Napa
