Default 240 overdrive shudder

I've been having some trouble with my '86 240. I have an M46 4sp.+od manual transmission. When I start off from a stop, the car shudders, the only way to prevent this is to slip the clutch a long time. I think this must be the spraque clutch in the od slipping. Can anyone confirm this? Also, what is the best way to fix it?

thanks,
josh

The clutch to presure plate contact is bad-basically you need a clutch job.

I should have posted this follow-up several months ago. I found that the problem is usually solved by replacing several O-rings on the OD selenoid. The problem had nearly gone away before I replaced these O-rings, and it almost never re-occurs.
