Default 240 steering wheel shake +60 mph

Recently purchased a 1993 Volvo 244DL and on the way home whenever I went 60+ the steering wheel would shake pretty violently. Owner did not mention this but he might've just drove it around town. Will take it to Les Schwab tomorrow but was wondering if any of you had any insight into this.

Thanks, dr

It could be any of a number of things, most are easy to fix;
ball joints
tie rod ends
steering rack bushings
control arm bushings
unbalanced wheels or a bad tire
hopefully it is a simple fix!

Was digging around some forums and that's what I was seeing. Ill check out the suspension and if that's not the issue I'll have the tires checked out.

Thanks for the quick response

one quick test for tires is to do a front/rear rotation to see if the bad vibes change. I'd also throw worn shocks/struts on the list. Any signs of oil leaking from the struts?

I like that idea mt - ill try it out after I flush the cooling system. I know the struts and shocks will have to be replaced, it's like driving on trampolines lol I love this car though even if its got more issues than I thought

I put in new pads and rotors and it seems to have helped with the vibration, rotors were warped I could feel the pedal pulse when coming to a stop. Now vibration is minor and only at 75+ mph. I suspect steering rack bushings might be the next culprit along with struts/shocks. I'll keep updating this thread if anything else helps.
