Default 240 whiny automatic transmission

The transmission on my 1991 wagon recently went low on fluid, I added what was needed. I now have a whiny turbo sound (jet plane sound) when accelerating and decelerating in the lower gears when the trans is cool. This seems to go away when it has warmed up. Someone told me I need to flush the trans, get new filters and add Lucas tranmission fluid. I don't want to spend a lot on this car, I am trying to sell it - maybe I'll just drive it as is till it dies. Anyone familiar with this problem? The car has about 285,000 KMs and otherwise is shifting poperly as far as I can tell.

Flush the trans and see if it goes away.

My trans has been the same for about 3 years. It whines when it's cold in the winter, but after a while the whine goes away. I flushed and changed the filter, but no difference. But it does keep working fine.

Mine whines a bit too. I bought mine about 2000 miles ago (1 month ago) and just did a fluid swap by emptying the trans pan fluid and putting fresh in. It was pretty dirty and I assume it hasn't been changed in a while. I'd rather not shock a 183k mile trans with a fresh fluidflush when no one really knows the last time it was changed. I plan on dropping the pan and putting a new filter in, adding a bottle of Lucas and 3 more quarts of fresh fluid. Should be much better off.
