245 diesel
Good Afternoon!
ok, i've got the weird "problem" as many would call it, but anyway My clock and my fuel gauge do not work in the cluster gauge. i've got the book here in front me and i still can't trace where what's going where. And it's really tough when volvo doesn't want to show you what you need to look at,. the book covers EVERYTHING else but the fuel gauge. covers the clock, but not in the cluster...
HELP i think that i'm going to loose my mind,
thanks?,

RE: 245 diesel
Im new to volvos but I might check the voltage regulator on the back of the cluster. It is a small black chip that I came across and looked up in the book. The service manual mentions that it could likey be the cause of the fuel gauge problems. If you take the cluster out and look at the back its ont he left side. Of course this was a 90 240DL and I dont know how similar the gauges are. Just a geuss

RE: 245 diesel
The main cause of fuel gauge problems (i.e. needle doesn't register) which I have found is in the sender unit on top of the tank. Its site is a nice hollow which holds crud and gunge and corrodes away the very small connecting terminals in the sender connector plug, the pipes too are almost impossible to get off.. Trying to remove the whole lot is not easy as it all corrodes in place (if you need to use force then use a brass drift, especially with a petrol engine, to avoid sparks) and you are unlikely to find a serviceable second hand one., new are still available but I was quoted about £180. Work out your mpg and fill up by the odometer!
