Default 740 Front Dash Speakers

Just was wondering if they knew the speaker size of the dash speakers. Something around 3.5"/4"? Tech, I know this question has been asked before, but I did not find a final answer.

And also, has anyone been successful in swapping out the factory's for aftermarkets? Please share any insight if you have.

Thanks,
Bill

Im not sure of the exact size, but when you remove the from dash skeakers, you cant take the actual speaker out of the houesing. You will know what im talking about when you take them out. I assume you could just stick an after market speaker in there, but then you will have to make a custom cover if you want.

You can replace them with Pioneers for sure. The covers comes off, but you have to drill out the rivets holding the peakers in (i'm pretty sure they're 4.5") Pioneers will come with mounting hardware to accomidate for the rivets (I bet other brands do to...i'm just a pioneer junkie). Or, if you get a little too ambitious with the drilling process....use a bigger screws.

no you cant. We are talking about the speakers on top of the dash. Not in the door. The ones on top of the dash are molded into the housing.

I've been reading about this problem today and the concensus is that if you just remove the speaker/mold you can cover up a set of cheap Pyle 4x6s with the provided cover....probably won't sound awesome but probably will sound better.

perhaps yall already knew this one....instruction on how to get those speaker/molds out? Sorry if you did....when i here about a sterio challange i can't help it.

I'm trying to remember what my Bro-in-laws 740 looked like up there....but i can't because my brain sucks. Can someone indulge me and take a picture of what this crap looks like? I'm curious....

If i can get my hands on a camra i will take a pic of the dash, and i will take the speaker out and take a pic of that also. I think i have an idea on how to replace the stock speakers with new good ones, and still use the volvo mesh grill that sits on top. It does involve some cutting of plastic!!!!
