Default 740 Wagon Tailgate Panel Removal

Hello!
I have a '92 740 wagon, and I need to remove the interior panel on the tailgate or rear door (not sure what it's called). I have undone the small plastic fasteners on the bottom which are visible, and I see there are some plastic clips on the top edge (which I accidentally ripped out because I didn't realize how they worked). Now the only thing holding the panel on is the door handle area. I have attached pictures of the panel if it is helpful. Any tips on how to remove this panel? I am trying to run wiring to the license plate area for a back-up camera which I was given. Any advice is helpful. Thanks!
-Jor

Default Rear panel

Most important piece is the handle that moves left and right to open hatch. At the tip is a torx or Phillips that needs to be removed.
after that its just torx/bolts and it lifts off.
unplug connections and out it comes.

as Goldenblock noted, pop the horizontal bar off the inside latch, remove the torx screws and gently lift the panel upward to release it from the clips near the bottom of the window. The plastic will be very brittle, so be careful. I ended up using small self-tapping screws the attach the bottom points to the sheet metal interior panel because the plastic rings had broken over time.
I have the same interior color! Looks good with black floor mats for contrast.

What I'm having trouble with is popping that horizontal bar out. I'm not sure how to get it out and I'm trying not to break it. Also I do have black mats and it looks great

Oh damn, I got the order of things wrong! Use a plastic panel tool to remove the rectangular ring first! then you can get at the torx screws. The horizontal bar stays with the lever attached to the metal inner panel. Sorry man.

no problem, and you just pry under the edge of that rectangular ring?

I'd have to go out to the driveway to tell you which side to start on, but yes. Gently pry it away, it's brittle. As I recall, the torx screws hold the bar in place and pin the latch assembly to the metal inner panel. When free and clear, the panel should lift off. The 3rd light wiring will be easy to unplug.

I've had it off to fix the rear wiper motor mounting bolts and to try to get at the license plate lights (you can't). The shaft for the rear wiper gets bound in the sleeve and labors to turn. Unfortunately, the weather sleeve is cheap pot metal like the light holders and will break easily when trying to remove the shaft bolt. I eventually solved the problem by reattaching the weather sleeve to the rear window exterior using butyl tape. It has held up so far and doesn't leak.
