79 245 temp reports hot in cluster when engine cold
my 1979 245 this week started out with some hesitation during acceleration and today the instrument cluster temperature gauge says its hot with the engine off and completely cool.

volvos have a 'temperature compensation board' designed to keep the needle in the center unless it really overheats. If this board goes bad you get the result you are seeing. Instead of replacing the board it is possible to remove the board and insert a small jumper wire then your gage will display actual temperature! IPD had a kit and directions for how to do this. It is not the reason your volvo is running poorly as there are two temp senders and the one for the gage is separate from the other, so I think you have another totally different problem.
