Hello to all. I have recently purchased a 1984 240 dl sedan. In thanks part to you guys after reading the forum and deciding to go Volvo!
Ok here is my problem and yes I am fairly capable of repairing vehicles but, this is my first Volvo. The problem is that whenever I turn on the light switch, car running or not, the fuse in number 15 and 16 blow out. So far I have followed the wire harness from the fuse block to the lights, and it seems in-tacked. I did not open the harness because it looked clean. The circuit boards appear to be fine and the bulbs are correct. Because it is fuse number 15 and 16 which blow immediately I also have no instrument lights or license plate lights. Needless to say I can no longer drive at night which sucks. Thanks in advance for any advice you guys could give me. Also the brake lights do work.

I think the rear seat courtesy light is also on that circuit, the harness run under the carpet and comes up by the e-brake. It can short out on any number of things between the seats

 

Thanks for the advice. I removed the shroud around the seat-belts and emergency brake and sure enough found two wires both grounding out on the metal tunnel! Not sure what they were for, but probably the rear courtesy light like the man said. Now I am having trouble connecting the speedo, it was off when I bought it and it doesn't seem to want to go in. Is there a trick or could it be broken?
