RE: 87 240
We're having the same issue with our '86 240DL sedan. We've replaced all of the light bulb holders, we're thinking of replacing the circuit board next. Does anyone have any smart ways of troubleshooting to determine what the problem might be? A friend suggested that a wire or relay under the dash might be the cause of our problem. The "bulb out" light on the dash goes on whenever I press the brake pedal, and it also goes on when I turn on the headlights. The fog lights seem to work, but the brake lights do not. Any ideas?

RE: 87 240
Only 1 foglight.
Inspect the plastic where the socket locks into to. They are known to melt or fall apart.
The circuit boards are also known to go bad.
If the plastic is broke in any way buy a new light assembly.
If the plastic is all good buy new circuit boards.
Also if you buy new parts STAY AWAY FROM SCAN TECH. They are junk.

RE: 87 240
I have an '87 245 DLand I hada similarproblem except there was a short and the fuse blew on a regular basis. The auto shop couldn't figure out what was causing the short and after a couple of hours of trying to see where a wire was cutI noticed the wire running through the hinge on the roof was cut. I put some heatshrink on it and ran a wire from theside brake light to the center one. Now it hasn't blow in a few months.
