I just had a transmission from an 88 740 turbo put in my girl's 93 940(non-turbo). The problem we're having is that it won't go into 4th gear. From what we can tell, the tranny was good, shifts strongly thru 3rd, but won't go into 4th. What could be the problem?

 

Is the overdrive Arrow on the dash on?

 

When she presses the overdrive button, the arrow comes on, but it's not going to fourth with overdrive on or off. I'm not too familiar with this car as it's my girlfriends, so does the overdrive have to be on to go into 4th?

 

If it is an Arrow the arrow needs to be off.
If it is an Overdrive light it needs to be on.
The soleniod might be bad also.

 

Checked the kickdown cable, and it's fine. And when I press the overdive button, I can hear it, and see the arrow.

 

You might only hear the Relay and not the soleniod.
