89 240 wont start
#2
Does it drain the battery when sitting over night or does it drain it when driving. If it drains overnight but charges fine when driving, then I would pull fuses and add them back one-by-one to identify which circuit is draining it. From there you can diagnose further. If it drains while driving, then I would check out the charging circuit.
More information will help diagnose the problem

indeed. put the battery in a charger til its fully charged, then let it sit a few hours off the charger, use a volt meter and you should read 12.6V or so across the battery. start the car and it should go up to like 13.8V or something, about 1.2V higher than the rest voltage.
if you DONT see that 13.8V, a few more things to check. A) meaure from the B+ terminal of the alternator (thats the one with the big red wire) to engine ground. B) measure from alternator B+ to alternator body. C) car off, then turn the on without starting, you should measure the battery voltage, about 12.6V, from the D+ terminal (thats the skinnier red wire) to the alternator body. if you don't, there's a problem with the 'kickstart' circuit, which involves the instrument panel alternator light.
