Try cleaning the idle air control valve and replacing the intake manifold gasket.

Clean the throttle body and idle motor first then if you still have the problem move to the intake gasket.

Check the connections and wiring connector plug at the AMM ( maf) for corrosion , look closely and make sure the small metal contacts in the AMM plug are in good shape and are able to make a secure connection . If you still have the same results with a known good AMM, the it would be time to try another ECU.

I have an 88 240, and I was having an overall power problem with the car. Stalling after idle was surely involved. After changing the plugs and wires, it was better, but still there. Naturally, I moved onto the distributor cap and rotor, 30 bucks together from Autozone. When I was changing them, I noticed that the distributor was loose. There is a slotted bolt hole that keeps the distributor in line with the engine timing. That bolt had worked its way out, or someone hadn't tightened it after servicing before I bought it. I simply adjusted that slowly with trial and error until the car ran MUCH BETTER. I double checked myself with a timing light the next day, and I was dead on. That solved my problem. With the MAF giving you hell, my advice might be unhelpful for you, but, if the timing were off like mine, having the MAF functioning would seriously throw off the Air/Fuel Ratio with the bad timing, possibly enough to cause a stall.

Assuming that the 740 has the Rex-Regina engine managment system, then code 143 is a problem with the knock sensor. There is no 143 code for LH2.2 or 2.4 equipped cars listed in my book.

Yes that is a knock sensor code.

The A/C on the V70 does it freeze up or just run alot?

hi again back to my 240. the problem was a wrong amm 007. i installed an amm ending 016 and i made the differnce the car runs great and does not stall. thanks again. sometimes the junk yard doesnt work all that great. going back and see if they can exchange it for the wright one will see. back to the v70. both lines going to the evap are freezing up. must turn compressor on and off to prevente this. it is very cold inside. is the switch i replaced the same as the evap temp sensor? not very sure. and thanks again. the 740 i cleared the code has not back yet will keep you posted.

What year is the V70?
If it is older than 2001 than the low pressure switch is bad located in the lines by the firewall.

If it is a 2001 or newer I would try to replace the evap. temp sensor. It should be located in the side of the air box on the drivers side.(U.S. drivers side)
