My 82 240dl Stalls
Hello everyone,
Thanks in advance. I have an 82 Volvo 240 with about 120K Miles on it. Car is in great shape and also runs great EXCEPT that has this problem.... it stalls out of the blue....no rhyme or reason. The only consistency I am aware of with the stalling is that it only happens when I am decelerating. I can be going straight, to the right, or the left. But...it's only when I am slowing down. Whenever it stalls I hear the humming noise come from under the driver's seat. Probably the driver's fuel pump starving?. So....I just replaced the other fuel pump located in the gas tank thinking that was the problem. I wished and prayed but no dice. The stalling still happens. My mechanic told me to sell the car because it's a dangerous problem. He's out of ideas. BUT....like all of you, I love my Volvo. Please help if you have any advice. Thanks.

RE: My 82 240dl Stalls
Actually, we've already changed that. I've read some of the other posts here and I was wondering if it could be a bad fuel pump relay. I've looked around but I'm a bit confused as to which relay.part number, etc...I should order for the 82 245. Any ideas? Some other possibilities seem to be the fuse box or speed sensor. By the way, I should have mentioned that the car starts right away after she stalls. Thanks.
