'89 740 SL, fluctuating temp. guage
Hello; I have had my local mechanic check this out twice now with no success. My temp. guage hand will creep up and/or jump to the red, wave its hand from side to side a few times and then go back to the middle. This all happens in the course of 3-5 seconds. It has happened on several occassions, started about 1 month ago, happens going 70 mph on the highway and 35 in the city, flat roads, hills, whatever. As soon as this happens, I pull over and check the hoses, everything seems fine. My wagon is in great condition for its age (age is just a number) and I want to keep it running as long as I can. Any thoughts on what is happening?
Attempts to repair have been: 'cleaning the wires/lines' and replacing the voltmeter (the voltmeter was a seperate issue, but was thought this could have solved the problem). This site has helped me in the past so I appreciate any thoughts. Thank you-

Mine's like that, too. It will go up, I stop and check things...nothing amiss. Then I'll turn a corner and it wll go down to where it belongs. As Bubba said, temp compensation board. I've just been living with mine as is; too many other priorities right now.
