Well, I neglected to look at the sellers feedback status (0). A new seller is not as trusted as a more seasoned seller so it won't likely bring top $ but I still say $3k would be a fair price.
BTW: No offense but sending a question like that to me would earn you spot on my blocked bidders list without a response. It's one thing to ask IF the auction has ended but while it's still active ~ very distasteful.

the car was in upstate new york originally and until 2010. so there could very well be underchassis rust.
mileage is really low. our white 87 (original owners) has about 400K on it.
trunk doesn't seem to quite line up right but maybe thats just an illusion.
I would *never* bid on a car sight unseen.

You have a much better eye than I do. I think I may be able to see what youre talking about with the trunk, but can't be sure.
So, if I am able to get ahold of this thing.. What repairs could you forsee in the future? I know its a difficult question to ask, but based on your experience with your 240.. What should I expect around the 115 - 130 mileage mark?

In short, heres my situation. I'm selling my current car, I want something cheaper/larger and that will last a long time. I'm not a ''do it yourselfer'' because I honestly do not know enough about cars, which is one reason im here.
The cars i'm currently looking at, are similar to the one listed above. There is also a 96 960 w/ just over 20k miles that was for sale in my area, but the guy is having second thoughts about selling it.
If I go with the 89(for example) I would really appreciate if you guys could give me a heads-up on what to expect. From what I read, these things run forever and require very minimal maitenance. How true is this?

Here is another beautifull example of what I am on a search for. 1988 Volvo 240 DL in Great Condition
I'm doing my research, but, I'd also like some current opinions, heads-ups and advice before I finally purchase something.

you can't judge a car from its pictures.
its been totally detailed, including cleaning the engine compartment.
why would he have done all that work and NOT gotten it vacuum tested and charged?!?
(note. our 1987 240, the AC hasn't worked in 15+ years. never bothered to fix it when the compressor burned out. when I replaced the radiator, I didn't even bother to put the AC condensor back in, and removed most of the plumbing... so I'm not one to say.)

New A/C compressor, evaporator, drier, condenser, relay and expansion valve (basically everything that can break has been replaced. Just needs vacuum tested and charged)

I was asking myself the same question actually.
But, we can probably both agree this is another Potential good buy. This will be one i'll probably call about atleast.
I am still hoping to get in contact with the owner of the 89 GL.. But pretty unsure of what to expect in the future with either car really..

every car is different. our 87 240 (wife is original owner), we drove pretty hard, and the automatic transmission was slipping at like 250 or 300,000 miles, so we had it rebuilt. that was fairly expensive. somewhere around 350k miles, I replaced the radiator, thats longer than many. we really only started getting into a lot of little things this past year or so, at about 400k miles, and 25 years old, the car has had a few issues. fuel pump wore out. wiper motor. engine camshaft oil seal. driveshaft bearing (actually, I think this was the 2nd it was replaced in the left of this car. alternator ground. flakey injection wiring harness (a problem with 83-87). flakey ignition harness (ditto).
doing basic things like flushing the transmission every 4-5 years, flushing the brake fluid and coolant every 2 years, will do a lot for the life of stuff. and of course 5000 mile oil changes. timing belt every 60k miles. water pumps should be good for 120k or more.
the only thing that will kill the engine is running it without oil or coolant.
its as easy a car to work on as any and a lot simpler than most.
