Default '90 245 help...

Just purchased a super nice 1990 245 wagon for my Mrs. On the way home it started a high pitched whine that rose and dropped when accelerating, then slowing down. Can't tell where its coming from, but think its in the trans ( Auto) or rear end. She took it to a shop, but couldn't get the noise to show up when the tech drove it. Comes and goes. Any ideas?? Could it be tires? Any thoughts will be appreciated, Mike.

Certainly it could be the rear end or transmission related BUT the first thing to check is the center support carrier bearing located at the juncture of the 2 driveshafts.

I think we've had to replace the center bearing and rubber donut twice, maybe 3 times on our 1987, in ~ 400K miles.
