Default 90 740 GL headwork

Well my car is being tore down since a faulty headgasket is troubling it, but since I have the head off, how much would a good port and polish help me. I dont expect no speed demon here but would it be enough to warrant spending the extra cash? Figured Id ask since it will be at the machine shop anyways. How much does that usually cost?

Save your money. Assuming it is the 90 n/a Regina car in your profile, the benefits of a p and p alone would be difficult to justify economically. The amount of labor involved in hogging out a head, even an aluminum one, would have to be upwards of $300. If all you did was the p and p, it would be a lot like peeing in the ocean. It might make you feel good but no one would notice. Now, as part of a staged build up, every little bit helps. Swap out that miserable M cam for a more spirited VX cam, fab an adapter to mount the larger 960 throttle body, larger injectors, high pressure fuel pressure regulator and a few other more expensive items like light weight rods, larger valves and such...you could go from 114 hp to maybe 150-160 which is stock turbo power. It takes a ton of money to make an n/a motor "walk the dog".

Dern its just insane trying to squeeze more power outa this sled, I might as well leave it the heck alone and buy a turbo version.
