'92 740 radiator
My car overheated while i was driving today. As it turnsout, the flange connecting the top hose to the radiator broke off.
I've tried repairing it by fitting a PVC nipple inside the broken flange. I used PVC cement to secure it.
My question is has anyone tried this and is there anyother way to effict a repair short of replacing the radiator?
Thanks

RE: '92 740 radiator
I had the same thing happen on my 97 960, the culprit, a loose 10 mm nut
on the drivers side hold down. The radiator could be moved just a
little, enough movement over time to have it crack. Not that this helps
you now, what will is do not buy a radiator of the universal type. I
bought one from Advance Auto, it was a bear to install, and one of the
ports, not used on my 960 was plugged. I was leary, but hopeful and
after I wrestled the thing in (the lines from the transmission were the
problem), it started leaking after about a week. I ordered one online,
an exact replacement, which actually cost less than Advace Auto. To
their credit I removed the leaking offender, boxed it up, took it back
and got a full refund. The replacement I got from the online source was
a piece of cake to instal on the 960, I also replaced the inflow and
outflow hoses, and the thermostat while it was drained.
I guess my point is check the 10 mm nuts that hold
the radiator in place, and while you are at lubricate the hood hinges. I
had one break on my DL240 from lack of. I now step of my soapbox.
