940 Tweeters
Now for the hard part, the tweeters are hard wired to the stereo and the door speakers run through the amplifier, and the twain shall never meet.
If you are replacing the headunit, then it is no problem, just trace the wires. I installed CerwinVega 3" tweeters in my car (after cuttiing out the old tweeters) but also had to cut into the vent duct directly below it to create enough space. If you try a direct replacement, the impedence of the speakers will not be matched to the stereo, IIRC they are 8ohm speakers and most modern speakers are 4ohms.
I have a set of known-good tweeters, PM if you'd like to buy them
Thanks man, sorry for the late response forgot to check my account. The car had an aftermarket headunit installed long before my time so I guess the wiring is anyone's guess. I'd imagine they must be in parallel with one of the other speakers because the stereo only has 4 channels and the crossover is inside the tweeter assembly?
Checked and yeah it looks like the tweeters are driven in parallel with the front door speakers and the crossover is a tiny capacitor inside the tweeter module. Appreciate the advice the tweeters came out no problem.
