Default AC compressor conversion (york to sanden?)

I am about to embark on a journey into my ac system (never even touched it).

The york compressor is done for (and it happens to have a leak, as well) so it is time to upgrade. I live in the AZ desert so A/C is needed.

I am looking for advice and, more specifically, guides/instructions on converting a 1984 volvo 245 york compressor to a newer rotary style compressor. Parts list... sources... Is sanden the way to go? electric fan addition to the front?

I will definitely take photos and post my process up on this forum, but first I need to know how to do it! =)

I have not done this with a Volvo but have done it with my old Ferrari and an older Jaguar. It will be a little search on the web but I would start by going to someplace like "vintage air" or similar aftermarket AC sites. Also there is a conversion bracket made to fit a Sanden compressor into a York bracket. Look on ebay for this. As to hoses you will most likely just need to splice in ends to fit into the new compressor. Leave everything else on the system as is. Replace receiver/dryer and orifice valve. It's a nice conversion so have fun.

Okay awesome. Is the orifice valve replacing my existing expansion valve?

I had a 84' 244 six months ago and did the conversion. I removed the P/steering-A/C compressor bracket and replaced it with an 86-90' bracket with the Sanden or Diesel Kiki compressor. Much easier than making special brackets for the rotary compressor. As mentioned previously hoses will have to be refitted, new dryer and expansion valve....Remember to do a 1/2 hour vacuum service, add 2-1/2 oz of 134A oil before charging...
