Airbox woes, no start, no boost.
*1984 Volvo 245 GLT*
Hey guys, I posted months ago about an exhaust leak and a no boost symptom. I fixed the exhaust leak, but when I go to start, Im not getting a good fire.
Before I started work, I noticed I wouldnt make any boost and that the car was running rich.
Symptoms are as follows:
No start, engine might fire for a second, then die immediately.
When I attempt to start, the air box occasionally makes a very loud pop sound, like a backfire.
plunger sticks inside the airbox, and is drenched in oil.
Im running acceptable compression on all cylinders 105-110 psi across the board.
Should I attempt to take the airbox out and clean every part individually?

first question that came to my mind was how did the oil get into the airbox? (PCV /flame trap issues?) If there is oil in the intake path then you'd want to clean the idle air valve, throttle body, boots/tubes etc (not sure if your 84 uses a similar plunger metering plate as my 84 Audi had but you don't want that to be sticky... just thinking if you need to remove to clean or can clean top down by removing the boot)
