Default Alternator is not charging!!!

Hello,

I recenty had to replace my atlernator for my 1987 volvo 240. Since then it has not been charging, I am on my 4th atlernator b/c I kept going back for another when I tested it to find that it wasnt charging on my car. With my current atlternator I tested it b/f I put it on my car like all the others b/f and it was charging but when I put it on my car it does not charge. I then took the alternator off and went back to test the alternator and it passed the test. We checked all wiring that goes to the alternator and made sure no positive wires were laying against any metal and insulated it. All wiring that goes to the alternator has continuity as we have already tested for it. Any suggestions would be a big help...just had to buy another battery b/c I killed my last one.

Thanks

if your charge light on dash is burnt out alternator will not charge. When you turn the key to 'on' it should come on. This wire supplies the initial 12v to get the alternator charging, once alternator starts charging light goes out because there is 12v on both sides of light and no ground.

You are 100% sure the wire is good at the harness plug at the firewall?

I also agree with above about the light bulb.

Tech, When you say the harness plug are you referring to the engine wiring harness plug?

Okay is there a specific wire that you are talking about or the wiring harness plug in general?
