Automatic transmission "stalls" in cold weather?

Automatic transmission "stalls" in cold weather?
Exactly as the title says. It acts as though it runs out of gas. Any idea what the problem could be? This is as driving by the way. Can usually just wait 5 seconds, and its good to go again.
