Best place to duplicate 240 DL key?
Hi, I have a 1989 240 DL 2.3 and I was wondering where is the best place to duplicate my key? I've tried Lowes/Home Depot and their blanks were not long enough for duplication.
Where is the best place to buy 240 DL blanks? Later I could take them to get them cut accordingly.

any decent real locksmiths shop should have volvo blanks. I avoid chain stores, their employees barely know how to push the start button on their crappy automatic machines.
Ilco X140 is what one of my 740 keys says, and it has the same locks as a 240.
the original keys were Neimann, which are german, and made from stainless steel rather than brass like the above Ilco, much more durable, but also harder to cut. sadly, these are becoming harder to fine... I dislike the brass keys, they are easier to bend or twist if the lock is stiff.

Thanks for this insight. Not many locksmith shops around here but I'm sure they exist. Yeah, after going to two Lowe's' and one Home Depot, I've learned to stay away from these chain stores. If I continue going there they're gonna mess up my key as well from inserting it into slots that it doesn't fit in...

ok, looked it up. the /factory/ Volvo key is PN 1316957 and they are $12 each as blanks from Key blank. Volvo # 1316957
(or $14 at a local Volvo dealer). These keys are steel and can't easily be cut by regular cheap key machines, I know my local locksmith has a special machine he uses on these, and charges a couple $ extra to cut them.
that Ilco X140 is a flat all metal key, it doesn't have the black rubber handle. an Ilco VL8p does have the plastic handle, but is still plated brass.
