blowing a fuse
I posted an earlier thread about my windshield wipers dying on my 1989 240 DL wagon.
Since making the post, my boyfriend and I found a tutorial stating that a common break in the motor for the wiper is the magnets falling out of position and gumming up the works. We took apart the motor and found that indeed, one of the magnets had moved from the correct position. We cleaned up the casing and using a strong epoxy re-attached the magnet to the correct position. After putting everything back together, we started the car, flipped the wiper switch and... nothing.
We checked the fuses, and the one for the wiper was dead. We initially thought that maybe we'd overlooked the fault in the fuse the first time we'd checked them. So we switched it out with another, turned on the car, turned on the wipers, and again, nothing but a dead fuse.
Neither my boyfriend nor myself have a lot of experience working on cars, so now we're at a loss. We have a hard time believing that the problem with the magnet was merely a coincidence, and that the fault has always been with the fuse, but don't really know how to proceed.
I live in an area with a lot of rain, and not a lot of mechanics that work on Volvos. The soonest I can get my car in for a diagnostic is next tuesday (and that's with calling to make the appointment on last monday.)
If there is a simple fix and/or a tutorial to fix the problem, I'd really appreciate it, as I don't think the RainX I put on the windshield since the problem started is going to be enough to get me to and from work for the next rainy week.
