Default Building a faster 940 with a B234F

I like to build a new motor for my 1991 940.
It has a B234 engine and a 16V head.

Tomorrow I am going to look at a 1992 940 Turbo.
I am not sure what engine is in it. B230?

Anyways does anybody know if I can just put the turbo from the 1992 one on my B234F ? Is the engine suitable to use? I think I have so swap the ECU?
Maybe the wiring harness?

Any ideas are welcome.

It would be nice to hook the car up to a computer. Would this be possible?

Thanks for your input.

the turbo is a b230ft

I've heard of folks putting 16V heads on turbo motors but I'd imagine you'd need to play around a fair amount with custom engine management stuff to get optimal performance. its not a simple bolt-on job either, the manifolds are different.

you'll find a lot more folks doing engine modifications on the turbobricks board.

re: 'hook the car up to a computer', if you mean the engine management, you'll likely want to replace the stock fixed programming Bosch LH 2.4 ECU with a custom processor like a Megasquirt or whatever. the stock system has no provisions for any sort of customization. I believe the LH24 ECU has a 8051 in it, and I'm not sure whats in the EZ116K ICU but its a pretty simple fixed function system, but both processors are running out of a ROM, and have only the fixed IO functions like the ECT, crank position sensor, O2 sensor, MAF, and the outputs to fire the injectors or spark.

another thing. the 16V has the AW72L transmission, which has lower gearing optimized for the high revving 16V motor. the turbo has the AW71 heavy duty transmission with fairly tall gearing optimized for the high torque turbo. not sure which would be better for a hybrid monster. if you push it much over 250HP, you'll be needing substantial upgrades to the tranny and differential.

I suggest you take a look at TurboBricks | High Performance Volvo Club. There have been some build-ups of the 16v engine with turbocharging.

I don't thing taking the 16v engine out and swapping in a b230ft engine would not be too difficult. There are differences as Pierce pointed out with the transmission and perhaps the rear end gear ratios. You would have to swap out the plumbing for the air intake including the intercooler. Also you probably should grab the engine wiring harness plus the ECU. On turbos the AMM is located on the other side of the car necessitaing in a different wiring harness.

indeed, the ECU are different. the 16V has, I believe, the same higher volume fuel pumps that the turbo has. I'd get ALL the wiring and engine accessories. turbo uses a different exhaust downpipe, too.
