Default Buzzing Fuel Pump

Hi y'all,
The adventures of the 83' 244 DL continue with a LOUDLY buzzing chassis fuel pump. I searched for fuel pump buzz in other posts, but no one reported loud buzzing. The questiong then, to all you 240-heads, is: does your fuel pump buzz loudly? And, Should I be worried about this thing quitting on me out on the road? I'm probably going to switch it out this weekend. So I'm just wondering what other people's experience has been.

three cheers for old volvo's!

There is a pre-pump in the tank that feeds the main pump, if that pump isn't working, the main pump will be noisy. So you need to look into that first before you replace the main pump.

Sometimes replacing the pre-pump fixes the noise, but normally the damage is done if it is real noisy.

Thanks for the tip. I have read elsewhere in this forum that the 'in-tank' pump only assists the chassis pump under certain situations (driving under heavy loads, etc). I will check it though.

Yes, the intank feeds the high pressure pump all the time...but DONT GET A NEW INTANK SENDER YET!! save some money by looking at this...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/255-L...spagenameZWDVW

it will save tons of money and will provide plenty of fuel to the HP pump on the chassis. its pretty easy to swap with the pump thats on the sender in the tank. message me for all the details if you need help...ive done many lol.
