a/c trouble again
 

To start I could not find any information in the past forums about my questions so lets have a little patients.
I bought my wife a 92 240 wagon just a couple of months ago to replace her P.O.S. Hundai wagon that failed with trans. problems.
There aren't to many " owned by a little old lady from Cali." cars any more but this one was.
The A/C would not work when I got the car, so I started digging. I found the pressure switch open, no problem. A can of dye and a can of freon and we are good to go.
All summer went by, the old lady smell went away, and all is good. Then one day my wife comes home from the grocery and tells me she heard a pop and now the a/c isn't blowing cold. More digging. Found the switch on the dash had gone bad, bypassed it and after the delay I got 14 volts at the connection next to the compressor.
Thanks for sticking with me, here is the question. The wire goes into a little square piece of plastic before it goes to the clutch. What is that piece, and if I bypass it could I burn up something important and worse expensive.
When I looked online for a new compressor, some had it and some didn't.
Someone out there has to know what it is and could tell me if it has to be in the circuit.

Is the little square plastic thing just an inline connector that the wire plugs in to? If so, it's easy enough to crimp on a new connector if required, or solder the wires together.

thanks andrew, but no. not that easy. I read somewhere it might be some kind of temp. sensor cutoff. I'm going to try and bypass it with a wire direct to the battery.

What are the wire colors entering/leaving the plastic square?

My 86 uses a different compressor but it has a peice of plastic for strain relief of the wire.

the wires are black in and out , thanks for the question, I wonder if its that easy,Are there any swedish gear heads out there that monitor these posts.? That could tell me for sure if its a strain relief that I can just check on the other side or some weird un known electonic part. (unknown to me that is)

thanks jp, that sure does look like it. What is that little square off the back that the wire goes through? Is it a strain relief, or some kind of sensor? I don't have alot of experience with volvo electronics so I'm a little afraid of taking out another component that I will have to replace before the Texas heat comes back.(79 degrees today , the second week of November)

As the magnetic clutch cycles on and off it creates an electronic pulse (emp) the emp radiates in an rfi (radio frequency index) that can effect the quality of life in the am (amplitude modulation)radio band and slightly in the FM (frequency modulation) band ergo the little square thingy is most likely a solid state choke coil (radio Filter)
