Default cleaning aluminum/mag 25-spoke GL wheels

I picked up a set of winter wheels this weekend, but boy are they ugly! I am hoping to find a way to clean these up a bit without pulling the tires (read: home DIY cheap method). Anyone have experience and/or ideas? I would strip them, I think, then do a Duplicolor special on the set.

Thanks in advance!

You're gonna be best off pullin' the tires, media blasting the wheels, painting them, and putting the tires back on.

Starting to look like a spring project; I had them mounted today and they gave me a spare sanding wheel (looks like flaps of sandpaper in a ring) as a suggestion short of having them blasted. Not really going to get into the nooks and crannies, though.

I've looked at writeups of building a sodablaster and that looks interesting - cheap, if time-consuming.
