Default Dropped Sending Unit Float in the Tank. To Leave in or Not to Leave In?

Hello all. I made the common mistake of dropping the sending unit float in the gas tank when replacing my in tank pump. I’ve tried a back scratcher, clothes hanger, rolling one side of the car up on ramps trying to make it float to one side and I just can’t fish this thing out. Is there any danger in just replacing it and leaving the old one in the tank? I don’t mind just buying another one and just being really careful next time. What do you think? Thanks.

i can't see any damage it would do. its shape couldn't allow it to clog up the pump inlet or cause any other issues, so if its that much of a PITA to remove, just leave it.

Yeah, I am sure shops can tell you a ton of stories of what some mechanics ended up dropping in there... No extra charge!

I was able to get mine out with bent wire and a piece of window screen ... basically a little fish net.

That would drive me nuts. Is it just the ball or does it have the wire arm attached to it? If it has the arm it may get caught under the new arm but other than that I would not worry about it.

I dropped mine in and it's been 7 months now....no problems only on occasions when my tank is full, as I make a turn the ball plays ping pong with the walls of the tank....I am now able to tell how much fuel there is depending on the sound the ball makes...NAAAAHH...
