Default Dyeing Fabric Seats

I've decided to convert my 940 to cloth seats instead of the hard, dry, cracked leather. And got some nice fabric, gray ones. What I like about a lot of current cars is the two-tone pattern of the seats. So, I was thinking why not dye the outer panels a darker color and leave the inner panels gray. But, with the panels sewn together, the dye would leach or bleed into the panels I didn't want to dye, unless you created some type of barrier to prevent that. Don't know if this is possible but I thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone's tried something similar? Thanks

I managed to find a nice set of leather seats for my 92 740, I think they were from a 940 or 960, they were dry and hard but completely uncracked, no wear to speak of. many applications of Leatherique later, they were nice and supple.

as far as dying fabric, I think SEM has some spray dies for carpet that would probably work on fabric seats, and just sit on the surface, not soak in. probably be a good idea to test this on some crappy seat before committing to a good set, using a cardboard mask....

I thought about that but one reason I want to go to fabric is the softness and if I spray the outer surface I would think it dries and creates a crust, which would harden it. Anybody try carpet dye?
