well, fuses blow when there's a short to ground.

one common cause of dashboard electrical issues is badly done car stereo wiring hackery. and the instrument cluster light circuit does go to the stereo harness.

is it the original volvo radio/cassette deck, or is it some aftermarket thing ?

ok, i have my wiring diagrams here... lets see, 'last fuse', you mean Fuse 16, 8A, at the bottom?

that powers...
  1. right parking (front and rear) lamps
  2. instrument and control lighting via the rheostat (dimmer) ****
  3. ashtray lighting
near as I can tell, that fuse is only powered when the light switch is on (parking or headlight)... so if the fuse is blowing when the headlight switch is OFF, then something is really fubar.

it only blows when headlights are turned on and it’s original radio it just doesn’t work and that is the right fuse

does it blow if you turn the dashboard dimmer all the way down before turning the headlights on? does it blow with the headlights in the parking light position, or only when the headlights are actually ON ?

I meant parking lights, not transmission in park.

So, it's probably a short in the wiring of either the right front parking light or right rear parking light. If turning the dash dimmer rheostat all the way down doesn't help, then those right lights are even more likely. But if with the dimmer on minimum the right parking lights work, then it's probably the dashboard lighting circuit.

after trying a few things today the dimmer all the way down it still blows but this might help the light on the dash that’s says when a light is out doesn’t work all the time but when it does work i can put a fuse in and it won’t blow so i don’t know what that means and i did find a loose ground it’s on but a hair loose but i couldn’t get it bc of it being torx bit under the plastic on top of the steering wheel and the coloum
