remove everything, paint the engine bay, strip and paint the engine, reassemble, and rewire/replumb 'neater'. or do what new cars do, and just put a big piece of plastic over the top of everything to hide it.

i also had a very dirty engine and engine bay. looked at it more than a few times ... and decided to take it to one of our local independent detailers who did a great job for 30 bux cash. my opinion well worth it....amazing difference.

Pressure wash is the easiest. The B230 is very forgiving, never had any problems after washing hundreds of them, just use common sense, don't spray directly on electrical connections, etc, wash it when cold.

I've had fairly decent luck cleaning engines with Gunk foaming cleaner, hose down the cold engine, spray with Gunk, brush the grungy spots, then hose rinse, allow to dry in the sun for a few hours before starting.
